Luxury in a home has very little to do with price tags and a great deal to do with how carefully the decisions were made. Five things that consistently make the difference.
1. Layered lighting
One central fixture is the fastest way to make an expensive room look cheap. Ceiling, table, floor and picture lighting on separate circuits lets a room change character through the day.

Stone, timber, wool, linen and metal age well and read as substantial. They also tend to look better after five years, which is not true of most of the alternatives.
3. Scale that suits the room
Undersized furniture is the most common problem we are called in to fix. One generous piece almost always beats three modest ones.

A custom piece, drawn for your dimensions and your use, changes how a room feels because nothing else could have gone there.
5. Restraint
Knowing what to leave out is the hardest part and the most valuable. Space is a material too.
